I have always viewed working with clients as a partnership, and hold the awareness that I am never simply treating a body, but a whole person. My skills and insight as a practitioner have been deeply informed from the inside out by years of chronic pain, and the remarkable healing that followed as a result of learning myofascial stretching and later receiving myofascial release. This natural segway lead me to train with John F. Barnes, P.T. resulting in a complete re-orientation of my private practice to myofascial work. My approach is “results oriented” and is built on the philosophy of three core values: Skillfulness, Compassion, and Service. Please see my website for a detailed look at how I might be of helpful to you.

John F. Barnes’ Approach to Myofascial Release

In 2007, I developed adhesive capsulitis (“frozen shoulder”) that caused me to wonder about moving forward with a career in massage. When conventional massage treatments failed, I learned about a manual therapy that used the principles of myofascial stretching, and pursued the teachings of John F. Barnes. This was the turning point in my health and career path. The recovery was amazing, and I knew that if I pursued the teachings of this remarkable technique, there would be a tremendous opportunity to assist others afflicted with limited mobility and so many other ailments. To date, I have been involved in ongoing training in John F. Barnes’, hands-on workshops throughout the country. Because of the amazing results provided by myofascial release, it is the only type of treatment I currently provide.

I entered massage and bodywork training with a significant background in Western Medicine. From a family with generations of Euopean and American physicians before me, I knew I had found my niche in providing deeply healing, therapeutic, and/or relaxing bodywork and massage to those seeking relief from pain, trauma, physical dysfunction and stress.

My specialties tend toward deeply therapeutic modalities such as NMT, Trigger Point Release, Muscular Re-Education, Myofascial Release, Structural Dysfunction, Orthopedic/Medical/Clinical, with muscle energy and subtle techniques. My signature work integrates various therapeutic modalities and techniques with long connective strokes designed to calm the CNS and relax the body and mind, creating a deeply relaxing experience suitable for both physical and emotional trauma.

Continuing education for 2011-2012 will be focused on orthopedic methods, myofascial release, cranial-sacral, and intra-oral NMT applications.

After graduation from massage school and licensing, I was privileged to be employed in a chiropractic office where I received training and license as a Chiropractic X-ray Technician. My duties included taking the x-ray radio graphs, measuring the deviation of posture alignment on the film and recording it on the chart. This led me to an understanding of antalgic posture. The doctor wanted interactive bodywork rather than passive massage therefore my continuing education has favored methods where the client actively participates in the session. Besides the bodywork I also did orthopedic and chiropractic assessments and recorded these for insurance progress reports.

The question “What is it that you do; what do you call what you do?” prompted me to come up with Antalgic Posture Pain Specialist. Antalgic means against pain. When the posture is altered to avoid pain it stresses other parts of the body causing pain distant from the pain that is being avoided. This confuses many health care providers and insurance companies. There expectation is to treat pain where it is located but antalgic posture pain has to be treated where the pain is being avoided. This gets even more complex when the condition has become chronic and the original cause has healed but the posture pattern has become ingrained and remains a source of chronic but unnecessary pain.

I am now retired and only accept the most difficult cases preferably with a therapist that wishes to learn the palpation techniques to identify the source of antalgic posture pain.
